Caspian Oriental Rugs was established in 1971 by Jamshid (Jim) Soomekh, has become a Chicago landmark. Jim’s vision transformed a small establishment into one of the largest stores for hand-woven rugs in America, boasting a 6,000-square-foot showroom and a museum-worthy collection of antique masterpieces. For three generations, Caspian Oriental Rugs has been a family business, passing down expertise in selecting and caring for exceptional quality rugs.

Carrying the Torch

After years of building a thriving business, Jim decided to retire. But the story of Caspian doesn’t end there. Recognizing the immense value of Jim’s legacy, a group of his loyal employees decided to carry the torch. Under new ownership and name ‘Caspian Rugs’ has found a new home at 549 N Wells Street in Chicago, continuing Jim’s dedication to providing a treasure trove of hand-woven rugs.
